Hair color is taking a bold turn this year: platinum blonde is IN. That’s right ladies, it’s time to let loose!
Platinum hair, depending on the length, cut, and style, can give off a variety of vibes.
-Short, bobbed platinum hair is great for the clubber, party girl, cocktail waitress, etc. – It says, “I’m hot, I know it, and I really wanna show it!”
-Long, loosely curled platinum hair is ideal for waterfront living, and beach cruisers. – It says, “I’m a natural beauty who goes with the flow”.
Aside from the color platinum being the ‘it’ color, there is also going to be a heavy emphasis in general on monochromatic tones. In other words, solid and bold colors (such as platinum blonde, onyx black, and bright red) will quickly be replacing any ‘wishy-washy’ tones, high-lights, low-lights, and ombres.
This monochromatic trend is partially due to hair color technology advancements. The industry has released new oil based lighteners and after-treatments that leave even the whitest blonde hair feeling soft and healthy as opposed to dry and brittle. There are also minimal chemical and bleach components to the new lightening products, decreasing the previously standard itching, burning, and smell associated with ‘going blonde’.
While some of our readers are excited about the new color trend, many of our readers are worried that the platinum look is either ‘not for them’ or ‘cool, but not everyone can pull it off’. While these are valid responses, the trend seems to already be cemented into this year’s trend list, as the platinum look has already been spotted on many celebrities, the red carpet, in magazines, on the cat walk, and is in high editorial and stylistic demand.
